STEP 8: FLOCKING AND SEALING:
After all the cities have been 'paved', and most of the roads have been
laid down, it's time for flock. The big gluestick I used is visible in the
background. Bare green areas are where forests will be. When flocking I
brush on about a square foot of fifty-fifty white glue and water, then
dump flock on top, let it dry, and shake off what remains. I used a mix of
a big bag of Woodland Scenics 'burnt grass' turf with one of their smaller
bags of 'dark green' turf to get an intermediate shade, then add in a
handful of coarse turf to create the occasional random bit of scrub, and
another handful of model railroad talus to look like rocks or boulders on
the ground. This gives a highly varied and interesting surface. After this
has dried, I then use a mister to mist thirty-seventy white glue and water
over the top of it, soaking it thoroughly and letting it dry overnight. Do
this three times, then add a few patches of leftover 'pure' burnt grass
and 'pure' dark green in various spots to break up the ground, thinning
the patches at their edges so they 'fade' into the general base cover.
Again, do a final coat with the 70-30. This will protect the flocking so
it doesn't all get rubbed off.
