DATE: Thursday, October 22, 1998 Place: City safehouse ---- Recall start ---- Lisa walks up to the door and knocks. She tucks her hands back in her pockets and glances around the yard. Nigel, after a pause and a discreet peek out the window, unlocks the front door and holds it open. "Lisa, good evening. Lovely as ever." Lisa smirks and says, "Heya, Nigel. Oh, Jayson sent word he'd be detained. Don't know if he means that in the penal code sense..." Bailey follows up a minute or two after Lisa. as he approaches the house to knock, he can be seen stuffing his Walkman into his backpack. Nigel waves at Bailey and holds the door a little wider. "Ah. Yes. I knew that his, ah, fascination with bootleg Teletubbies videos would catch up with him one day. I'll send a cake." Bailey walks in, blinking as he catches the tail end of the City Farmer's comment. he nods to the others. "Evening." Lisa shudders and says, "Teletubbies? Yea Gaia. We'll have to get him to detox soon." A sharp rap at the door. JJ Malone is settled already in what has become his accustomed chair at one end of the dining room, with a legal pad and a pen the only thing before him this time. Nigel peeks out the window again, then swings the door open for Rik. Rik steps in quickly, looks around. "Not late?" he asks, drifting toward an empty chair. Bailey heads for a seat quietly. He looks up as Rik enters, and shakes his head. JJ Malone shakes his head. "No, please, all of you, have a seat. We have several things to discuss tonight." Lisa finds a seat near the back, turning it so she can rest on the back. She opens her backpack and removes a small notebook. Nigel unconsciously echoes Bailey's headshake. "Right on time, actually." He looks over his shoulder at the driveway as he moves to a seat. "I don't suppose you saw Salem on your way in?" Rik looks thoughtful as he finds his seat. "Don't think so. He got a car?" JJ Malone takes up his pen. "Salem's on a business trip," he announces ambiguously. "Part of my agenda, actually." Lisa tilts her head and says, "Salem mentioned something like that." Nigel blinks at this, and settles back into his seat a bit. Bailey nods quietly. Rik takes the news with the quiet acceptance of the one who is uninformed about everything, and thus surprised at nothing. Lisa checks the time and says, "You know, I think we should set a standing rule that anyone late for family meetings without prior notice buys the pizza next time around." "Old Business," begins the fostern. "For those of you unaware, we have completed the task of investigating Ashley Turner, in conjunction with the spirit that is Consumer of Stone which was entrenched in the Bawn. 'We' being myself and Watchmen. With our help, Ouroborous managed to break into the Turner Enterprises headquarters and steal back the fetish which the leech was using to control the bane. Later, Nigel," he says, indicating the theurge, "and Jayson led a team of theurges into the place to cause the major disruptions which you all may have read about in the paper. Needless to say, from the results, I think our efforts were a success, and that we've completed the double goal of reminding our woodsy cousins that we're a force to be reckoned with." Lisa chews on her lower lip, chin resting on the back of her chair. She listens, eyes focused on the floor as JJ speaks. Rik rumbles "Well, as one of your woodsy cousins, I think you're a force already." Lisa says, "This sort of begs the question: What do we do next?" Bailey listens, breaking into a smile at his Elder's last comment. He looks to Lisa. "Well, I was hoping to set up a meeting between the Watchmen, Edge, and Cavall, about those dealers we fought a while ago." JJ Malone snorts. "You're not a woodsy cousin, Rik, you're a mutant," he says acerbically, then digs into his pocket for a plastic bag with some crystaline substance in it, which he tosses just before his legal pad. "Which meshes well with the next topic," he says, with a slight nod towards Bailey. "Do any of you have contacts in chemical labs, that could analyze this stuff?" Lisa shakes her head, "I can get access to the student labs at SCCU but I don't know chemestry." Rik shakes his head. "Not around here." Bailey shakes his head as well. "Afraid not." Nigel leans forward. "This is timely, actually; my gas chromatograph just arrived the other day. Chemistry's not my strong point, but I can certainly give it a try--what should I be looking for?" JJ Malone takes up the bag and toss-slides it down the table towards Nigel when he speaks up. "This is some sort of drug, the same sort of drug that the dealers Edge and Cavall found a couple months ago. We need to analyze it thoroughly, see what's in it that's different." He gives Rik a glance, briefly, then says, "I frankly don't care if it's around here or not, as long as it's done, and done quickly." Lisa says, "Has it been pinged for the scent of the enemy?" Bailey closes his mouth as the No-Moon echoes his question. "I was told it's mildly tainted," J.J. answers calmly enough. Rik pulls back a little, unconsciously. Nigel tilts his glasses and looks down his nose at the bag's contents. "Oh, my. Noted." Bailey takes a single breath, and nods. "I'll arrange the meeting," he says. Lisa smiles and says, "Networking is your friend." JJ Malone sits straight in his chair. "Related to this, Edge has also approached the Family about working with them on this. In addition to analyzing the drugs, they also would like help in taking down the drug ring supplying this, more than simply offing those they know to be in charge, now. I think that would probably be part of the meeting Bailey is proposing. And, that includes all of us," he says, with a significant look at Rik. "It's about time you stopped being a hermit and did something useful again." Rik shrugs helplessly and says nothing. Bailey fishes around in his backpack to find a small notebook, which eh jots things down in. He nods as he listens, taking personal notes. Lisa makes a scribble or two in her own notebook and says, "So...don't suppose any of us have an uncle Vinchenzo we can ask for help? Or relatives in Columbia we can call?" Rik clears his throat. "Uh. Actually, he's not an uncle." Lisa lifts her head and says, "Oh? Do tell..." Nigel gives Rik a startled look. Rik shrugs. "If they still remember me back home, there're a few people who owe me favours," he says quietly. "They've... had some exposure to this sort of thing." Bailey nods, again. he's not writing anything down at the moment. Lisa combs her hair away fromher eyes. She holds onto the chair back and leans thoughtfully. "Well, when we find out who's supplying the locals, it might take some favors to see where the pipeline starts..." Rik nods. "I'll... write or something. Find out how good my credit still is." JJ Malone flicks a glance from Rik to Lisa to Nigel, holding his look on the latter and holding his silence and listening. Nigel comments softly, "We can provide favors. Bailey, may I speak with you later, get some details as to how this drug affects the users? That will help in the research, and it might also provide a clue to the pipeline's shape, a keyword to look for as we poke around in various databases." Bailey looks to Nigel, and nods. "Of course." For the perceptive, it can be noted that J.J. has yet to make any notes although he has both pen and paper before him. The fostern says, "Moving on. The last bit of old business is old simply because it's been taken care of already. Just under two weeks ago, Nigel, Salem, and Jeff confronted a rogue Garou, who was probably responsible for the serial killings being much hyped of in the paper. You might also have read about how they dealt with it in the paper. I want all of you to keep a good eye out any possible signs that the Veil was, in fact, breached by them or by the rogue, Joshua Black. Right now, it looks intact, but you must be ever vigilant. Also, congratulations might be in order," he says with a slight grin. Bailey's eyes widen as he hears the name, and nods, once. Nigel examines his feet. "If any of you see an opportunity to spread stories about gang members with very large pit bulls, please do so. It wasn't much of an alibi, but it beat the alternatives." Lisa tilts her head and smirks, "Why don't we just grab some wild pit bulls from Seattle and let them loose here?" Bailey chuckles at this. Nigel snorts quietly. "Don't tempt me. Jeff proposed stealing a cougar from a Mexican zoo; I'm still not sure if he was serious." >> Rina pages to the room: Knock Knock. Lisa shakes her head, "No cougars." She glances up at the knock at the door, back arched and weary. JJ Malone's eyes slide to the door, hand going under the table. "Someone get that?" he asks quietly. Nigel gets up and moves to the door, peeking through the window again before unlocking and unbolting it. Bailey raises his head to see who's knocking, tensing. Lisa relaxes as Rina enters. She waves and says, "Heya." Rik frowns as he studies the new arrival, finger tapping his chin lightly. Bailey blinks, seeing who it is. Rina ducks through and shuts the door behind her. "Yo," she murmurs, glancing to JJ. "Bike trouble," she explains. Then she finds an empty bit of wall to lounge against. "Good of you to join us," J.J. says sincerely, giving the Kinfolk a nod. "New business, then?" Nigel re-bolts the door, checking the street before going back to his chair. Lisa says, "So...is Salem's business trip part of the new business?" Nigel nods. "And is Jeff's absence for similar reasons?" JJ Malone snorts slightly. "Mr. Montgomery tendered no RSVP, so I have no idea where he is. Jack's was more of an announcement. The cubs were sent off to the Homeland on the test for their Rite of Passage on Sunday. Jack went with them to make sure they got their in one piece, and also to give him a taste of what he's gotten himself into," he says with a small, sardonic smile. Bailey relaxes with a chuckle at this. Lisa laughs and says, "Salem in Masamune Shirow-ville? Oh, my...wish I could see that." Nigel covers his face with his hand. "Oh, gods, me too. What I wouldn't give for a crystal ball." "With recording capabilities," Bailey chortles. "Need to show that one around." JJ Malone half-smirks at the byplay, then says, "Oh, and Nigel, I wanted to remind you and Jeff that you have about two weeks to complete the tasks you've been given for the ruckus caused by killing Joshua. Someone please pass that on, if you see him before I do." He then looks around the table. "Anyone have anything to add, before we close up?" Lisa shakes her head and says, "Not unless our cousins out in the woods are up to something we should know about." Nigel clears his throat. "A general question: has anyone, anywhere in town spotted a leech in the past month or so? The quiet on that front is unnerving to me." Bailey shakes his head quickly. "Been wondering about that, myself." Lisa shrugs and says, "I haven't exactly been actively hunting for them." JJ Malone remains quiet, not adding anything himself. Lisa adds, "But, if I see any particularly annoying Goth types I'll make sure to wail on them. For principal's sake." Bailey smirks at Lisa. "Save some for me, 'k?" Nigel examines the carpet thoughtfully. JJ Malone rakes her gaze over them once more. "If there's nothing else, then, I'll declare this meeting adjourned after an announcement I have to make." Lisa tilts her head. Nigel gives JJ a quickly-masked look of resigned dismay, then returns to his carpet examination. Bailey looks to J.J, curious. JJ Malone folds his arms on the table before him. "My last act as elder will be to see that the cubs have the Rite of Passage performed for them when they return. As of tonight, Nigel is the new Glass Walker elder in all other things." Rik blinks and looks up in surprise. Bailey blinks, once. He nods, understanding, and flashes Nigel a smile. Lisa joins Bailey in his blink, then says, "So...this mean we get to throw you a booze filled retirment party, JJ?" Rina continues her study of the floor, though her expression waxes thoughtful with the news. Nigel, studiously expressionless through most of this, winces minutely at Lisa's words. JJ Malone shakes his head at Lisa's question. "No. All I ask is that you give Nigel the respect he deserves, and I'm sure everything will be fine." Bailey looks back to JJ. "I hope you'll be staying with us." "That's yet to be determined," J.J. responds evenly, but a subtle tension fills him at the words. A pause, then, "Meeting adjourned." Any joviality in Lisa's eyes drains with JJ's last words. But, she tucks her notebook away and says nothing. Bailey nods quietly, putting his own stuff away. Lisa straightens and says, "Oh, any idea when Jack and the others will be hitting our dimension again?" Rina's expression betrays tension. She slips out quietly, without speaking. JJ Malone shakes his head. "You know how time gets in the Realms." Lisa nods and sighs, "Yeah. They could already be here and we could be in an alternate timeline. Sweet." Rik wrinkles his nose and says nothing. Bailey winces as he stands. "Jeez, Lisa, don't say that," he says, half-joking. Nigel tilts his head a bit. "Those three, lost in alternate dimensions? Pity the alternate dimensions." Lisa chuckles and just whistles the opening chords of the theme to "Doctor Who" as she makes for the door. Bailey grins at Lisa, hummin the theme to "Twilight Zone," himself. He looks back to Nigel. "When is good for you?" Nigel looks at Bailey blankly for a second, before realizing what he's referring to. "Um...does late tomorrow work for you? I might even, with luck, be able to give you a preliminary finding then." Bailey nods, affirming this. "Cool," he says. "Owe you a cooked meal, anyway, so just stop by my place." Rik pushes away from the table quietly, after a long thoughtful think, and skulks toward the door. Nigel smiles. "My best to your packmates, Bailey. Thank you." Bailey smiles back. "Hey, no sweat," he replies. Nigel mumbles something about finding something safe, 'preferably lead-lined', to carry the drugs in, and wanders into the kitchen. Bailey nods to JJ once more. "Gaia light your path," he says, then leaves. ---- Recall end ----
