DATE: Tuesday, February 17, 1998 Place: The High Note ---- Recall start ---- Brushing his hair back with a hand, Bailey enters the club. He blinks, taking in the abscence of light, and sweeps hia gaze across the numerous tables, searching for a familiar face. JJ Malone is settled in one of the larger booths in a back corner near a darkened hall that probably goes into the back stockroom or performers dressing area or something. Before him is a geometric glass of some clear, iced beverage; the other scattered patrons all seem to leave him alone. Jennifer steps in a few moments after Bailey, looking around a bit nervously. She striaghtens her shoulders, and walks back to the table where the Walker Elder sits. Bailey notices the corner bopoth at last, and moves quietly over to the table. He stands away for a moment, allowing Jennifer to choose her seat first. Jennifer sits across from JJ, pulling her jacket off as she sits. Bailey also opens his jacket, shucking it as he takes a seat next to Jennifer. JJ Malone checks his watch, then gives a short sigh. "Daisy's in the bathroom, but we can start without her. I've no idea where the others are, but, screw 'em if they couldn't make it on time. I take it you two have met?" Jennifer nods. "Yes, we have." Bailey says quietly, "About two months ago, I think." he blinks, reaching for the nearest untouched water glass, and pulling it slowly towards him. JJ Malone startles, then looks over to Jennifer deliberately. "Is that so?" he asks still conversationally, but there's an edge to his expression. Daisy's desc: She's a decently handsome-looking young girl in her early teens, perhaps fourteen or so. Deep brown eyes hold a sparkle of inner life and joy. She clearly enjoys simply living life to its fullest--but in a quiet fashion rather than boisterously ostentatious. She wears a baggy pair of pants and a non-confining pull over shirt. She looks better dressed than a normal child would, almost as if mommy or daddy picked out her clothes for her. From one corner of the restaurant, the door to the Ladies room is pushed open gently. Daisy steps out, eyes blinking as they re-adjust to the dimly lit interior of the restaurant. She turns to watch the door close by itself behind her, then makes her back to the table where JJ is at. Jennifer nods once, eyes not leaving JJ's. "It's so." Bailey wets his lips, first with the water glass, then with the tip of his tongue, as he turns his head towards the bathroom door, and notices the teen girl moving towards them. JJ Malone silently assesses Jennifer for a moment, before saying generally, "As the last unknown, then, this is Daisy." Jennifer nods to Daisy, a smile faintly curving her lips. Bailey smiles warmly as the introduction is made, and settles in his seat at the table. Daisy purses her lips a bit shyly at the attention before slipping into a seat near Shades. "Hi," she offers in return to the others gathered here tonight, hands fiddling with the napkin she slides off the table. JJ Malone sniffs with a hint of anger. "Good to see they're also stealing your manners. Daisy," he says deliberately and indicates along with his words, "this is Bailey, and this is Jennifer." Jennifer picks up a water glass, long fingers wrapping around the sweating sides. She sips from it, and sets it down again, only the faint tremble of the water inside betraying her nervousness. Bailey lowers his shoulders a bit, extending a hand to Daisy. "Bailey Jacobsen, Night's-Justice," he says, voice not reaching above the din of the club. "Cliath Glasswalker Gibbous Moon, and member of Cavall." Jennifer looks at Daisy. "Jen Leigh, Galliard Glass Walker cub." "Bai'wee an' Jen'niper," Daisy echoes Shades, looking to each as she repeats their names to the best of her ability. A glance at Shades as the others give introductions beyond their names. She offers in return to the pair, "Daisy. Glass Walker. Cub. Theurge." Besides her name, anything with two or more syllables comes out slow and with deliberate effort at proper pronounciation. JJ Malone leans forward on his elbows once Daisy has reciprocated. "I'm going to get right to the point. Do either of you have any issues you want to bring up?" Bailey rubs his chin thoughtfully, and takes a sip of his water before answering. "Right now, I'm just waiting for your go-ahead on your plans for the fountain." Jennifer shakes her head. "What was your agenda for tonight, JJ?" Daisy busies herself with smoothing out her napkin on her lap and being quiet and inobtrusive. JJ Malone's mouth twitches with sardonic amusement. "One thing, really," he says, before steepling his hands before him, fingertips just touching his lips. "We suck as a tribe. That's as much my fault as anyone else's, but I'm willing to admit it. Starting this month, we're going to start meeting regularly, just like other members of the family do. We're going to act like a tribe. And before we can do that," he says, leveling his gaze on Bailey. "You and I have something that needs resolved." Bailey gives a calm gaze to his Elder, and nods. "Yes, JJ." JJ Malone loosens one hand to stab perfunctorily if softly at the table before him. "You've joined Cavall. Cavall, as a group, has to act more like Bone Gnawers. Ergo, you have to. That is unacceptable for a Glass Walker, you are not a child of Rat." Bailey nods, agreeing. "That is true, I am a child of Cockroach, not of Rat. But, as a member of Cavall, I have been asked to adopt Rat's ways for a time, which I have accepted. Cockroach represents adaption, and that is what I am doing with the situation." He takes a slow, noiseless breath, and sips from the glass again. "I have neither denied or disliked being a Glasswalker, but I don't think I've never known what being a member of the Tribe means. By living this way for a time, I think I might come to a better understanding of what it means to be a 'Walker." JJ Malone shakes his head. "Unacceptable," he re-iterates succintly. "No one has the right to ask you to give up the ways of your family. Except your family." He pauses, his mirrored gaze not having left the only non-cub present. "Is it truly your wish to live like them?" Bailey doesn't blink, and leans forward on the table a touch. "For the moment, until the Challenge has ended, it is. Afterwards, I will return to living in my apartment, resuming my normal way of living." JJ Malone studies the cliath for a long moment, before asking with graceful sarcasm, "And how long will you be required to live like that?" Bailey shrugs slightly. "For as long as the Challenge lasts. One month, maybe two." JJ Malone's brows come together slightly behind the frames of his sunglasses; the two cubs have seemed to slip to the peripheral of his attention. After a long pause, he says, "One. You have one month, as the rules of Challenge in this place is that they be completed in that time frame. If it does go longer than that, you'll have a choice to make, regarding your status as a member of this family. If you don't walk the walk, then you don't get any of the benefits, either." Bailey nods, and fixes his eyes on his Elder. "I was unaware of the Rules of the Challenge at this Sept." He breathes, and says the next with a calm confidence. "I accept your proposal. One month. Should the Challenge go longer than that, I will have to make that decision." Jennifer looks into her water glass, listening quietly. JJ Malone gives a small, clipped nod to Bailey, in effect sealing the agreement. "Then, your role in my plan goes no where, as you have to honor the terms of the Challenge. For all intents, you're not a Glass Walker. You can stay here tonight if you wish, though, for the sake of at least hearing it. Jennifer," he says, turning towards that cub. "You're long past due to be tested. It's sink or swim time. Your little extracurricular jaunt shows it's way past time. Starting tonight, until the end of March, you're on it." Jennifer looks a bit taken aback, but nods. "Okay. What do I have to do?" Bailey remains at the table, resting his chin on an idle hand as he listens. JJ Malone drops his hands to take up his glass of ice water, swirling the ice cubes in the glass. "There have been effectively four Dons in this city in the last four years, and several others of note. Find out who those four Dons are. Hear at least one story about each of them in their time in St. Claire. Find out the circumstances under which the storyteller Remy St. Sauvage was killed and what happened immediately after that. Gather together a group of those Garou living in the city to tell the stories to." His expression becomes even more intense as he continues. "As much as I hate you storyteller's prying into everything, it's not only bad that *they*," he jabs a finger towards the door, "have forgotten what we've done here, but so has the tribe, through attrition, and even if I don't like it, it's what you're born to do. So, do it. You got all that?" Jennifer nods. "Got it." JJ Malone leans back. "Good. Because, scary as it is, you've been here longer than everyone else here." Bailey watches the condition, fascinated. JJ Malone gives a terse, irritable sigh, and leans back in his seat. "Lastly, that leaves you," he says, looking at Daisy. "There's a new seer by the name of Jayson who is just about done with his admission price. Soon as he is, I'm going to be asking him to take over your real training." "Oh-key Do-key," Daisy agrees with JJ Malone. JJ Malone takes a sip of her water. "Any new business to discuss?" Bailey shrugs, shaking his head. JJ Malone waves a hand. "Very well. Meeting adjourned. One month," he says with a flicker of a glance at Bailey. "Think hard, storyteller." Bailey nods calmly. "I will." Bailey lets out a breath, rising. "JJ, Jenn, it was good to see you again." he turns to the Cub, "And it was a pleasure to meet you as well, Daisy." he smiles, turns, and leaves the club at a steady pace. ---- Recall end ----
