DATE: Tuesday, August 25, 1998 Place: City safehouse ---- Recall start ---- JJ Malone lets himself in with a key to the house, shutting the security system off behind him. His keys jingle a little bit in his hand as he makes his way through the house to the back kitchen. A few minutes after JJ unlocks the house, there's a knock at the main doors. Lisa comes in from outside. JJ Malone answers the knock at the door after a few moments, opening the door to admit Bailey. He's hardly moved away from it when another knock sounds, and he returns to let Lisa in as well, giving a grunted "Hey" to her in greeting. Lisa says "Heya" as she enters, hefting her backpack onto her shoulder once more. Bailey places his own backpack on the dining room table, nodding to his Elder and Lisa as he enters. He pulls a Snapple from his pack, and opens it. Lisa finds a chair for her backpack and sets it there, the unmistakable sound of textbooks thumping about following it's contact with the seat. "How goes?" JJ Malone returns to the dining room where a bottle of Evian is sitting on a sandstone coaster and sits at the head of the table, looking at his watch in an impatient gesture. With annoyance in his tone, he says, "We'll give the others a few more minutes to show. Oh, fine," he answers. "Yourself?" There's a pensive look in Bailey's eyes as he nods to Lisa. "Depends," he says, almost a mumble. Lisa says, "Classes. Big, honking 3 hour film classes on Wednesday nights." She rubs her eyes. "Still, any prof that shows "Repo Man" as her first film of the semester is aces in my book." JJ Malone looks mildly perplexed. "Why would they show a film like that in a class?" Lisa smiles, "An example of nonstandard cinema." She pauses, then glances around. "Oh, bugger..." Walking briskly to the door, she opens it just as Jeff arrives. "Heya." Sticking her head outside, she says, "Daisy? It's ok to come in..." Jeff raps on the door then enters when it's opened. His hair is somewhat out of place and there's a bit of grease on his face and shirt. "Fuckin' car," he mutters, obviously his excuse for being tardy. Slowly he heads toward the others, without another word. With pursed lips, Daisy files in after Jeff. "Hi," she says quietly to the room in her own subdued style of greeting. Bailey flashes a smile to the Cub as she enters, and turns to Jeff with a raised eyebrow. "You ok?" JJ Malone's expression tightens but then eases somewhat as Jeff comes in, rapping his knuckles on the table in lieu of a gavel. "Alright, let's get started once everyone's seated." Jeff snorts softly, finding a seat. "I'm fine. For a trustworthy car, it's a pile of rusty, spare parts. I'm going to just have to get a new ride before too much longer." Once JJ speaks, he, of course, grows quiet and attentive. Daisy doesn't look for a good seat, she just takes the one where she's least obtrusive and sits down, smoothing her pants out inexpertly, as if the mere motions were alien to her, in the process. Lisa moves her bag to the floor and takes a seat beside Daisy. "I'm sure you can afford it," J.J. retorts cuttingly to Jeff without missing a beat or looking over at him. "Old business first. Jack's officially a Glass Walker after the feedback from the last meeting. Does anyone have any new information about the vampire situation?" Bailey puts his Snapple on a small book he's removed from his bag, and looks to JJ as he commences the meeting. Jeff doesn't respond to the comment. At the question, he simply shakes his head. "Not yet." Bailey shakes his head as well. "Not much at all, no." Lisa shakes her head and says, "It's been rather quiet. Which usually means something ugly's gonna happen pretty soon." JJ Malone scowls. "Probably," he agrees with Lisa. "What's Rina been up to?" he asks Jeff specifically. "She found anything?" Jeff lets out a sigh. "I haven't had the chance to talk with her in the last week. She had a run-in with something, last she said. She wouldn't give me details, however. I suspect it was that gang again." "What gang?" the ahroun immediately asks. No, demands. Lisa cups her chin in her hands, turning to Jeff. Her fingers tap along the sides of her jaw, as if typing something there. Jeff crosses his arms, clicking his tongue against the roof of his mouth. "She said it was some gang that hangs around the more sleezy side of town, around the temple I believe. Might have something to do with our vamps, but she said it seemed more cult related. Hard to tell, she was a bit out of it at the time." He places both hands on the table, "I haven't gotten the chance to follow up." Bailey hmms at Jeff, curious. "Might explain the sling," he says. "She mentioned something to me, a while ago, about some sort of cult-like group she ran afoul of." JJ Malone steeples his fingers before him. "Do either of you know anything more about it?" Jeff gives his head a light shake. "Like I said, she was out of it when I talked with her last. I had thought she'd be here to explain it, actually." He glances around the room once, "It appears I was wrong." Lisa pauses and says, "How badly was she hurt?" Bailey grimaces, shaking his head, again. "She didn't seem like she wanted to talk about it." He looks to Lisa. "Sprained arm. No broken bones was what she told me." Lisa sits up in her chair, hair falling over her eyes. One by one, she pops the knuckles on her right hand. "Where's she staying now?" "At her home," Jeff replies quietly to Lisa. "They caught her out while she was clubbing. Plus, she wasn't too eager to accept housing." "Anyone watching her?" asks Lisa. "She might have been followed home..." Bailey shrugs a bit, taking a pull from his drink before answering. "Not sure. I don't see her around much. But, if she's a student at the University, she might be easier to keep track of." Lisa pauses and says, "I could always check the directories. They list most students and their e-mail addresses. If she's registered, she should be on there." Daisy watches the interaction between Lisa and Bailey quietly, but with interest. "Why," the lupus inquires with her drawn out speech, "she not say who hurt so us protect can? She not go to wrong...." She hunts for the word she wants. "... land of others?" Lisa pauses, opens her mouth as if to say something, then closes it again. Puzzlment crosses her eyes as she tries to figure out Daisy's question. Bailey shakes his head to Daisy. ~Nope,~ he says, switching to the Garou Tounge. ~She has't gone to the Wyrm, she's still on our side. Some people, though, keep to themselves, like Rina.~ Daisy switches to the Garou tongue after someone else does so first, finding the more gutteral language more facilitating. ~That does not make sense. Human thing?~ The question provides a nice and easy explanation if answered with an affirmative. Bailey nods. "Pretty much," he replies, switching back to human speech. Lisa nods and says, "It's a very human thing." Daisy purses her lips and switches back to English and sluggish speech. "Okay." She seems completely satisfied with that answer. JJ Malone is scowling but silent during this discussion, finally breaking his silence to say to Jeff, "I want you to keep me up to date every week like I ask. Send me email, if you can't get me on the phone. If these gangs have nothing to do with the Wyrm or the leeches, then she'll have to take care of them on her own until she asks for our help, but if they are, I want to know yesterday. So, new business. Bailey, you had something to talk about?" Jeff nods once. "Yes sir." Bailey nods, rising. "I do. Something my pack and Edge found very recently. Yesterday," he says, pulling a small baggie out of his pants pocket, "they ran across some drug dealers, most likely Vietnamese from the speech." He places the bag on the table. The bag contains white, crystal-like rocks, identifying it as crack. There's a label on the bag, showing a Wyrm Sign. The Galliard Scowls. "We tracked them down and questioned them last night. The bangers were pretty much runners, and there's some new guy in town suppliying this shit." He takes a deep breath, as if for some reason he has to steady himself. "From what we got from them, this and automatic weaponry, seems like a new supplier is in town, and wants to go city-wide with this." JJ Malone's eyes narrow at the glyph. "Did you add the sign, or did they?" Bailey looks at his Elder, honestly aghast. "Not a chance. I don't kid about the Enemy. This was what we found on the baggies, as is. Nothing doen to them." Lisa narrows her eyes and says, "Oh, great. I wish I could say this little tactic was a new one, but DC's flooded with stuff like this all the time." She cracks her knuckles again. "First it was tainted crack, then heroin. While back they tried tainting bottles of St. Ides to provoke a gang war. Never heard of anything this blatent before, though." Jeff glances to Bailey, "What information do we have on where this is coming from?" "Not a whole hell of a lot," Bailey explains to Jeff. "This just came to our attention yesterday. Both Edge and Cavall have their eyes open, since that's where the gang members have been seen so far. The gangers were not good fonts of information, speaking only of a large fat man with clammy skin that sweated a lot." JJ Malone either doesn't notice or doesn't react to Bailey's dismay--neither does he make any effort to take the bag. The highly perceptive might actually notice how very, very still he's become, at odds with the usual ease it is to read him. "Stupid of them to mark it like that, then," he says in a low-tone absent of emotion except pensiveness, seeming to be talking more to himself than anyone at the table. "Keep an eye on it, and keep me informed." His soft spokenness gives his words all the more weight, so different is it from his normal intensity. Lisa pauses and says, "Well, not betting on stupidity...it could be a lure." JJ Malone's head suddenly tilts a hair-breadth, fixing his gaze on Bailey with disconcerting directness. "It *is* actually Wyrm-tainted, yes? Not just labeled as such?" Jeff glances around, letting out a light snort. "I wouldn't think anyone would have tried it, but JJ has a point. Anyone sensed it yet?" Bailey hrms. "Not sure. There was a general taint. But, Sensing the Wyrm anywhere in the city usually has a low-level reaction. Have to try and have Elan do a better reading, see what he picks up." JJ Malone's voice is dry but without its usual snap, making it sound distracted. "Yes, we're not Rangers, we know that." With a hard swallow that again only the perceptive would notice, he suddenly waves a dismissive hand briskly. "Put it away. Does anyone else have any new business to discuss, before I finish?" Lisa seems a bit puzzled by the reference, but shakes her head to his question. Bailey puts the baggie away, and sits down. Bailey shakes his head. Jeff also indicates that he has nothing else with a light shake of his head. JJ Malone takes a long drink of his water, then clears his throat before leaning forward to continue. "Two more things, then. Brian's requested that we, as a tribe, do some work for him. One is to find any information possible on the vampire which escaped the Great Hunt. The Get, Kate's, also said she's planning on going after it, but at worst, we duplicate efforts, and we might find something out she doesn't. Second," he turns to Lisa, "he'd like for someone to look into why a prominent surgeon at the hospital left about the same time we were planning on taking more action to clean the place up. And also to look into more mundane ways of improving the place. I think this is right up Nigel's alley, so I expect your pack to take the lead on this, but not to hesitate to call on the rest of us," he gives a pointed look at Jeff at this, then back to Lisa, "if you need it. Since the rest of your pack couldn't make it tonight, I'd like you to pass it on to them, please." Lisa nods and says, "Gotcha. Consider the mail sent." Jeff nods lightly, saying nothing. Bailey nods. "I know where to find Kate. She's hooked up with Kyle pack, so I've heard. I can catch her through Dillan." "Untouchables," J.J. corrects automatically. "Yes, I've heard." The snap has returned to his voice, although not as bad as it usually is. "Lastly, I want to put the cubs through their Test soon. Jeff, is Brandon ready?" Jeff strums his fingertips together and explains, "He's been through everything except the hand to hand training. Nigel is suppose to get with him with some spirit training as well, I believe. Other than that, he's good to go." Bailey looks over to Jeff. "I might be able to help with the hand-to-hand. Not as well as JJ or Rik or Jack, but I've been training for the last year or so." Jeff gives a light nod to Bailey, "I could teach him some, but I would prefer one of the full moons do it. More their field." Bailey nods. "No sweat." JJ Malone scowls. "I'd like Jack to, or Rik if you can find him. If you can't get either of them to do it by next week, let me know. Daisy, you, too, soon as I can talk to Nigel on how you're doing." He glances at the theurge cub. "And," to the rest, "I'm taking suggestions. Anything else?" Jeff nods to JJ, "Will do." Bailey nods. "I don't have anything." Daisy gives a quiet nod back to the elder as she gets addressed. Or talked at as the case may be. Jeff shakes his head once, signaling that he has nothing else. "Meeting adjourned, then," the ahroun pronounces. "I'll expect all of you to give me weekly reports on what you're working on." ---- Recall end ----
