DATE: Friday, May 8, 1998 Place: Silverton Apartments, Apt. #120 ---- Recall start ---- Living Room, 120 Silverton As you look around the living room, one thing that strikes you is the sheer incongruity of the furniture. A somewhat beaten couch squats along the east wall, with a nice rustic endtable beside it, a brass lamp on the endtable. A somewhat rugged and worn coffee table lies spread in the middle of the room, contrasting with two nice-looking recliners on the west wall, on either side of a window overlooking the atrium. To the north, to one side of the hallway, is an entertainment center, with a TV, VCR, stereo, and Sega Saturn game system all hooked up together. On the other side of the hallway is a 'bookcase' made mostly of plastic milk crates, with some books tossed into it haphazardly and others neatly stacked within. Along the south side of the room is the bar separating the kitchen and living room. The atrium is back out the front door. The bedrooms are to the back, one north of the other, with a bathroom between. A wrought iron spiral staircase leads up to the second floor just west of the center of the room. Contents: Patrick JJ Malone knocks authoratively on the door, for once not smoking so instead fidgeting restlessly out in the hallway. Patrick is plopped in front of the TV, playing some sort of computer game or another. At the knock on the door, he hits the pause button and calls out, "Who is it?" "Malone," comes the muffled answered. Patrick yells out, "It's open," and sits up to face the door. JJ Malone tries the door and comes in cautiously, relaxing after doing a quick look-see and spying Patrick. He walks more fully into the apartment, although hovering near the front hall and door. "I got your note. You wanted to talk?" Patrick nods. "Yeah." He turns back and saves the game to a memory card, then cuts off the system. Spinning back to face JJ, he continues, "Quiet passed on that you knew something about this wench in Seattle. I thought I'd be nosy, or at least maybe trade info." JJ Malone takes up a position supporting one wall with a shoulder, hands going into his jacket pocket, the off-hand straight-armed. "Did she also tell you that I wouldn't vouch for its veracity at the time?" he asks, tone making it merely a question. Patrick grins wryly. "JJ, I'm Uktena. We almost /never/ fucking vouch for the full veracity of anything." JJ Malone snorts, and counters sardonically with a smirk. "Rumor is even if you do its questionable. You know I'm not like that. But," he goes on, "good news is I'm a little more confident about what I have, although I wouldn't advise taking any of it at face-value and acting on it. The whole thing still makes my skin crawl, and I trust my instincts. I don't know why I got the information in the first place, some of it seemed 'too easy' to get, and for the life of me I don't know how this Ashley Turner has anything to do with the mondo spirit I've heard about." Patrick shrugs. "We dunno, either. But she seems to be connected /somehow/ to someone who was around the city at the time, so. How'd you get her name, anyway?" "Got dumped in my lap?" Malone retorts with. "Don't laugh, I'm serious. Someone paged me with the proper code and told me to meet them somewhere outside of town. I did. Person there dumped the name, some information, and some pictures in my lap, then left. Girl was just a mule, didn't seem to know anything about it, or at least that's what she told me. Funny thing is, the Family in Seattle's clammed up tighter than a virgin's legs on her wedding night about this. Won't claim to know the mule, or the guy she says sent it to her, and won't answer the phone numbers I have." Patrick frowns and nods. "That's ... bizarre. Odd, even for Family stuff. So," he says, very obviously changing the subject, "wha'cha got so far?" JJ Malone's voice is cautious, but ticks off a brief report. "She's probably a leech. She's a businesswoman into transportation and some natural resources commodities. She sponsors university grant papers primarily on history of the late 19th century, and philanthropic ventures. And, hints that the Family in Seattle may know even more about her than they've let on, and she knows it. Hints of threatening them." Patrick smacks his right fist into his left hand. "I /knew/ it! She looked too damn much like the one back the /last/ time." JJ Malone looks as startled as he can behind sunglasses. "Last time?" Patrick looks up at JJ, almost sheepishly. "We ... uhh ... we somehow got dragged back and saw some of the stuff around the area last time the big mondo bane was up and about. Turner resembles the woman who was in charge of the railroad company at the time, but we couldn't be positive if it was the same person with a few changes, or just a relative. If she's holding something on the Family in Seattle, it's a lot more likely she's /something/. That gives us another clue." "Evidence points to the fact that she's a leech," J.J. confirms conditionally. "But, I don't entirely trust the sources of my info, yet. I'm planning on getting Jayson and Nigel to do some more research. Do you know anything else about her that might help?" Patrick shakes his head slightly. "Beyond the fact that she seems to be caught up in this mess somehow, and that discovering /how/ could blow this mess wide open, no. There's some sort of leash on the Bane. Right now, she's our best lead on what it is and where." JJ Malone shakes his head a little. "In all my experience, I've never heard of leeches being involved so tightly with banes. Still, if you think there's a connection, I'll have them try to find it." Patrick shrugs, a slightly sour expression on his face. "There's a connection, somehow, somewhere. Uktena's hinted at it, and Wendigo's hinted a little. I don't know how, where, why, or even if she knows a damn thing about it. But there's something, somewhere, and she's our best lead at the moment." JJ Malone grunts thoughtfully. "And if Uktena is hinting at it, then odds are good," he says with a small, sardonic grin, cutting humor. He straightens up out of his lean, and shrugs his leather jacket back into place. "I'll talk to Jays and Nigel, and see what we can come up with. Let me know if you find anything out, and vice versa." Patrick nods thoughtfully. "If we find anything, I'll let you know. Thanks, JJ." As the metis heads out, Patrick spins again and turns the game system back on. JJ Malone gives a short nod, then departs. ---- Recall end ----
