Alphabetical Listing of Totems
CreditsBelow is a table of many such totem spirits. As a note to the purists who might be reading this, the list is not meant to be either all inclusive or purely "canonical", from the White Wolf source material. I've intentionally left many White Wolf-created Totems off, and some are not in White Wolf at all, but have been created by the players of GarouMUSH, an online role-playing world focused on the Garou and Garou society. So, no email requesting additions, or flames for having things not in the books.

Totem type: War
Bear
Totem type: War
Description:
The Great Bear is a fierce warrior but very wise in peace time. Children
of the Bear are gifted with the art of healing and the ability to hibernate for
up to three months at a time without need for food or drink. Their strength is
also increased, mirroring Bear's great strength. Children of the Bear have the
Gift: Mother's Touch once per day. Bear has lost power amongst the Totems of
the Garou and is out of favor. Upon discovering that a Pack has chosen Bear as
its Totem, all members of the Pack will lose honor, and some of the honor they
would normally earn goes instead directly to Bear. Sons of the Bear (Were-bears
or Gurahl) look favorably upon Garou with this Totem, as do certain native
peoples.
Totem Ban: Bear asks nothing of his Garou Children, wisely knowing
that they already give him much by simply affiliating themselves with him.

Former packs: Ghostrunners, Omega
Buffalo
Totem type: Respect
Description:
Buffalo is a totem of great strength. He tempers this brute force
with a great wisdom, however, unlike his brother the Bull. He protects the
blameless from undue harm and strives for balance above all things. A
symbol of life and its cycles to Native Americans of the Plains Tribes,
Buffalo has formed a unique bond with these people. Their fates have
always been tied. Buffalo is often called upon when garou come together
for a cause, for it is Buffalo's way, and the way of the boundless herd,
to work together to accomplish things. In these days of infighting and
clanless Ronin, his name is seldom mentioned, though. Yet some still
choose his weary path; to those he gives both strength and protection so
tat they may emulate their father.
Totem Ban:Buffalo asks his children to protect the innocent, especially
native peoples, and to strive for the natural balance, always.

Former packs: Winter Solstice, Gaia's Shield
NOTE: Former Caern Totem
Bull
Totem type: War
Description:
Bull's strength lies not in subtlety or wisdom, but in brute strength. He
charges into action without thought, and teaches his Children to do the
same. He is associated with virility. A Garou who is chosen by Bull gains in
strength, but soon finds it much easier to gather Glory in battle than to learn
Wisdom. Bull also teaches his Children his fighting skills.
Totem Ban:There are no restrictions; however, Bull's Children frenzy
often in the heat of battle.

Chimera
TRIBE: Stargazers
Totem type: Wisdom
Description:
Chimera is the Totem of the Many Faces, the Lady of Mirrors, the
ever-changing. In the Umbra, she gives her Children the ability to disguise
themselves as something or someone else. Individuals favored by Chimera find
the difficulty of riddles, enigmas and finding things reduced. They gain
additional skill with Gifts involving perception, enigmas and inner
wisdom. Chimera is a very widely-respected Totem, increasing the Pack's
reputation for Wisdom. Stargazers will notice the Pack's affiliation, but this
may not affect their opinion of them.
Totem Ban: Chimera does not limit her
Children, but will not visit them if they do not seek enlightenment.

City Father
Totem type: Wisdom
Description:
City Father is the collective spirit of the city, appearing as anthropomorphic
representation of the metropolitis: Philadelphia has broad shoulders, Atlanta
is a slightly charred Southern belle. So far, the Glass Walkers have only met
and interacted with these entities in the largest cities of the Western World,
though there is suspicion other cities harbor this type of spirit. Children
of a City gain knowledge of the city as if they had the Gift: Attunement,
and are taught to have a good level of knowledge about the city. Sometimes,
the spirit is able to send warning or aid to its children in the form of
citizens who love the city, possibly even possessing them. Glass Walkers look
favorably on followers of City and Garou of that tribe gain Wisdom for
following one, but other Garou lose wisdom if other tribes find out about
their association.
Totem Ban: The Garou must perform any favors the City Father asks of
it regarding the general welfare of the city as a whole.

Cockroach
TRIBE: Glass Walkers
Totem type: Wisdom
Description:
Cockroach is quick, hardy, and incredibly adaptable. It is a Totem
of the modern age. Cockroach's spawn gain the ability to Peek into data
streams and through electrical connections in the Umbra; that is, they can
enter the Umbra and, using their Gnosis, look through data that is stored on
media or streaming through a computer cable. Individuals favored by Cockroach
find it substantially easier to work with computers, electricity, almost any
science, and to repair things. They also gain extra proficiency with
technologically-oriented Gifts. Cockroach, being a relatively new Totem,
causes his Children to lose some Honor.
Totem Ban: Cockroach asks that all ofits kin be spared by the Pack.

Cougar
Totem type: War
Description:
Cougar roams across North America, raging at the loss of his children
to the Wyrm-Comers. Originally most often associated with the Wendigo tribe,
he is now better known among the Uktena. Whether this is due to the Wendigo
pulling further and further north and away from their ancestral lands, or
because of the bond between some Uktena and the Pumonca Bastet, is unknown,
and fiercely debated by the tribal Theurges. Today Cougar is most often
associated with warrior Uktena in packs that eschew the mystical side of their
heritage in favor of a more direct approach. His wide-ranging nature makes
him a favored spirit of American born Silent Striders. He grants his chosen
with endurance in battle, and the power to journey tirelessly. Those packs
who have taken him as totem usually have few mmbers, and are often solitary
compared to other Garou. Oddly enough, they are also less territorial,
willing to share the same running space as long as they are left to themselves.
Totem Ban: Cougar packs are expected to help preserve the wilderness
from the depredations of the Wyrm, and must never retreat when they choose to
battle.

Former packs: Blood Moon, Cerberus, Forest Howl's Echo
NOTE: Former Caern Totem
Coyote
Totem type: Cunning
Description:
Coyote is the trickster. He is wild, unpredictable, the outlaw. He is
the shadow in the woods, he is the root that trips even the mightiest of wolves
the run. Coyote's howl pierces the Moon, and calls Her down to dance. He is a
great warrior, a master of deception and skulduggery. He teaches his Children
his soft-pawed stealth, both wilderness and street cunning, and the ways of
survival. He always has the ability to find his Pack, wherever they
are. However, the Garou do not see him as an especially wise Totem. Packs of
Coyote never receive even a deserved reputation for wisdom, and are continually
being blamed for problems and troubles that come up, whether or not they are at
fault. Coyote is quite a powerful Totem to have, but very difficult. Boredom,
however, will never be a problem for the Pack.
Totem Ban: Coyote does not limit his Children.

Danae
Totem type: Wisdom
Description:
Danae is a powerful Totem of the ancient Celts. Often thought to be a
faerie spirit, Danae is actually the spirit of an ancient wise woman. In the
Umbra, Danae gifts her Children with Second Sight, enabling them to see equally
well through the Umbra and the real world. Danae gives the Garou an affinity
with faeries, and enables them to enter Arcadia easily. They gain the ability
to entrance listeners throgh singing or howling. Danae gives her Children
access to primal memories, making it easier for them to learn ancient
knowledges. Danae is a very hard Totem to reach, and thus does not often
reveal herself to the Garou. In fact, not many Garou know of her. All Fianna
will recognize and honor Children of Danae.
Totem Ban: Danae asks that her
Children honor her on the Solstices and Equinoxes with a Moot.

Dog
Totem type: War
Description:
Dog is the Weaver-tainted city dweller, the skulker in alleys or companion
and guardian of the humans. Some say Dog is an honorless slave to the ways
of the Weaver and the humans. Yet others know that Dog can dwell where
Fenris Wolf cannot, and battles the Wyrm on its own territory: the scab.
Dog is canny and streetwise, and his incredible nose searches out the
enemy's strongholds in the city. Packs who follow Dog can expect to lose
honor and respect in the eyes of their fellow Garou. However, Dog lends his
ability to sense and track, and is a fierce warrior.
Totem Ban: Dog favors loyalty above all. His packs must present a
solid front to all outsiders, never showing discord between its members to
those outside of the pack.
Current packs: None
Former packs: Cavall
Dolphin
Totem type: Wisdom
Description:
Dolphin dwells in the endless sea of the Umbra, the protector of all that
swims in the waters of the earth. Dolphin's children often belong to
egological groups such as the Green Knights, protesting and interfering
with human activities such as illegal dumping in the sea, and whaling. Because
of their work, Dolphin grants her children bonuses to her attractiveness
to others, allowing them to sway people and influence them to listen to them.
Children of Gaia always respect her followers, too.
Totem Ban: Dolphin's children must work to prevent the hunting of
sea animals and water pollution whenever possible.

Eagle
Totem type: Respect
Description:
Eagle: Eagle is a totem of Respect, an honorable creature that guides his
children from above, as he rules the upper air. He watches from afar, noting
changes, and warning his children of possible dangers. To aid them, he
teaches his children his alertness as well as the gift Eyes of the Eagle. All
of Eagle's children may spak with his earthly representatives without a
special gift. For their alliance, they receive Honor, although any pack
wishing to ally with him must seek Eagle out in the Umbra and convince him of
their honorable intent and their own worthiness. Once, humans trained eagles
to be wolf hunters, but the ultimate purpose of this training is unclear.
Some Garou speculate that it was a war on the Garou and that Eagle teaches his
children out of guilt and sorrow. Others claim that the hunts were attacks on
Black Spiral Dancers and that Eagle's alliance is born from a long standing
history of aid.
Totem Ban: Children of Eagle must prove their dedication to
their totem by periodically leaving some appropriate food item in a place
frequented by eagles. Should a child of Eagle ever earn dishonor, Eagle will
leave them until they have made restitution. Children of Rat mistrust Eagle,
while Falcon tends to view them as worthy and honorable, but still
competitors.

Falcon
TRIBE: Silver Fangs
Totem type: Respect
Description:
Noble and brave, Falcon soars high and leads all Garou. Through his
insight into the hearts of other Garou, Falcon helps them to be strong. The
Silver Fangs are served by Falcon, who helps them maintain communication with
each other over the whole world, which enables them to maintain unity. Falcon
is a highly respected Totem, though perhaps not as respected as he once
was. Packs who are chosen by Falcon gain immediate honor in the eyes of their
fellow Garou, but yet they may find that Falcon requires them to hold back the
power of their will even in the gravest situations. Falcon inspires all his
followers to leadership, and grants them the necessary skills. Silver Fangs
will perhaps look upon Packs of the Falcon as being noble, although some will
scof and consider them poseurs.
Totem Ban: Children of the Falcon can never
allow themselves to become greatly dishonored. If they do, it is expected that
they will right this discrepancy, or perform the Rite of Contrition, and atone
by throwing themselves into some impossible battle with a minion of the Wyrm,
thus effectively committing suicide.

Fenris
TRIBE: Get of Fenris
Totem type: War
Description:
The Norse Wolf-God of legend, Fenris is bloodthirsty, powerful, and
strong. He expects no quarter and gives none. His is a warrior way. He only
chooses a warlike Pack. His patronage enhances the physical attributes of his
Packs, and earns them great Glory. The Get of Fenris tribe will respect the
Pack a little more and will constantly ask them to accompany them on wild,
frenzied hunts.
Totem Ban:Fenris requires that his Children never pass up the
opportunity for a fight.

Flea
Totem type: War
Description:
Flea smites her enemy with small, frustrating blows that hinder his
ability to perform. She also defies her opponent to catch or kill her, using
her leaping ability to avoid capture and her armored body to absorb even the
worst damage. To help her followers, Flea offers them the Gifts of Luna's Armor
and Leap of the Kangaroo. Because of her fighting style, the Garou
unfortunately see Flea as a coward. As a result, followers of Flea gain Glory
slowly. Only Bone Gnawers or Ragabash follow Flea.
Totem Ban: Flea asks that her followers let her people live in peace.

Fog - Current Caern Totem
Totem type: Wisdom
Description:
Quiet and mysterious, Fog, once the wind God Aeolus, gives his Children
the ability to hide, sneak and conceal. Fog hies many secrets in his murky
interior. Fog teaches his Garou the value of patience and subtlety. The
Children of Fog gain in subterfuge and stealth skills, and find it easier to
see through the mists surrounding the mysteries of the world. The Garou also
gains the Gift: Curse of Aeolus. This Totem is favored by Uktena, Ragabash and
Stargazers.
Totem Ban: If a Child of Aeolus reveals a secret to someone
outside his Sept, he loses Willpower permanently.

Former packs: Untouchables
Fox
Totem type: Cunning
Description:
Fox is quick, cunning, and sly. He prefers to sneak up on his victims, or
better yet, pull them into his confidence, making them feel safe before he
strikes. He loves to bring his foes into his territory, leading them into traps
or causing them to lose their way. Fox enjoys seeing his Children baffle their
enemies. To this end, Fox teaches his Children the ways of stealth, subterfuge,
and canny awareness in the city as well as the wild. The followers of the Fox
tend to share his sly nature, becoming adept at making others do their
will. Fox is not seen as honorable by the Garou, and is not a favored Totem.
Totem Ban:Fox is far too sly to limit his Children. However, his
followers must never participate in a fox hunt, and must help the fox throw
the hounds off his trail if they ever encounter such a hunt.

Grandfather Thunder
TRIBE: Shadow Lords
Totem type: Respect
Description:
"Thunder rules with a fist of Iron and a voice of Silk,"
is the ancient adage. Thunder is more feared than respected, yet his place
amongst the Totems of respect is secure. His Stormcrows have eyes everywhere,
and he rarely chooses a Pack on his own. Instead of a Totem avatar being
relegated to the Pack, he sends one of the Stormcrows to tend to his
Children.Thunder teaches patience, ingenuity, subtlety, and strategy to those
he chooses. Packs who are chosen by Thunder gain a slight increase in Honor,
and may make Thunder's vast will as their own in times of need. The followers
of Thunder learn the ways of etiquette but may find that few Garou truly trust
them. Trust notwithstanding, any follower may intimidate those around by
invoking Thunder's name. Shadow Lords will want to know what Packs of Thunder
are doing at all times.
Totem Ban: Children of Thunder usually do not tell the
truth to those they do not respect. They will not respect those who they
dominate.

Grandmother Tree (Fir)
Totem type: Wisdom
Description:
Grandmother Tree is strength and endurance. She
gathers wisdom through ageless patience, and bends with the wind while
holding firm with her roots. Her influence spans all species of tree,
and her avatars always identify with a specific arboreal type.
Grandmother's avatar in Fir bestows upon her children the ability to
move freely through forests and to stand firm in defense of their
territory. She also passes on wisdom as she deems fit to her children
through her trees.
Totem Ban:
Children of Grandmother Tree in her
incarnation as Fir must do their best to defend and succor live trees
within their territory.

humans and will only very rarely allow a Garou of the homid breed to be his
Child.

Lion
Totem type: Respect
Description:
King of the beasts, Lion has always been known for his strength and
nobility. Lion has fallen out of grace with younger Garou, for he resists

gain an increase in Honor and the king's knowledge of the animals, and may find
it has become easier to impress their elders.
Totem Ban: Children of the Lion must defend helpless animals from
danger.

Magpie
Totem type: Cunning
Description:
Magpie, the chatterer. Magpie, the innocuous. Magpie the silly
gossip, whose knowledge may one day lay low the Wyrm. Gracious and trembling,
regal mother and secret confidante, she sends her packs into dark places to
find the shiny bits of truth. Knowing the perils faced by those who ferret
out secrets, Magpie grants her children subterfuge, and bids the magpies of
the Realm to arm them with knowledge.
Totem Ban:Children of Magpie must
constantly feed their spirit with any secrets they discover, for the nature of
Magpie is to gossip.

Former packs: Rise of Mercury, Sneetches
NOTE: Former Caern totem
Merlin
Totem type: Respect
Description:
Merlin is not the largest of hawks, but he is still swift and fierce.
He is something of an underdog's champion among totems, counseling that the
greatest in size is not always the greatest in spirit. Merlin responds well to
courage, and encourages his followers to strike intelligently rather than
ferociously.
NOTE: There is a different version of this totem which is a totem of Wisdom
and is not much like this one at all. This is the version found in the
Silver Fang tribebook. The other version can be found in the Fianna
tribebook.
Totem Ban: Merlin's children may never kill birds of prey,
or their spirits. Even wyrm-tainted raptors must be caught and purified if
at all possible.

or guard the seas from the enemy. He is deep and mysterious, privy to many

Owl
TRIBE: Silent Striders
Totem type: Wisdom

Owl is silent and swift. In the night, Owl rules. Owl lends quiet aid to
his Children, gifting them with premonitions of danger and leading them to
forgotten mystic places. Owl gives wings to his Children when they enter the
Umbra so that they may fly from place to place. Owl's Children have an
increased ability to mask their own sounds and be stealthy. They gain
increased effectiveness with Gifts involving air, travel, movement or darkness.
Silent Striders will often appear out of nowhere to aid the Pack when they are
in danger. The Pack gains in Wisdom for being associated with such a wise
Totem. Children of the Rat do not get along well with Children of the Owl, as
their Totems are constantly in conflict.
Totem Ban:Owl asks that his Pack leave animal sacrifices for him in the
woods in the form of small vermin that are tied in place or caged.
Current packs: Night's Talons
Former packs: Gauntlet
Panther
Totem type: War
Description:
Though an unusual totem for Garou, this spirit is well known to the
Furies, especially those who choose the paths of the warrior and the
wilderness. She is much associated with women, and comes to them in her
aspects of Great Cat and Black Cat. She prefers grace to raw strength, and
careful thought to the forward charge, but is nevertheless quick to strike and
deadly in her Rage. She grants her followers catlike grace and sureness of
foot, and opens their eyes in dark places. She is despised by most Red Talons
and Get of Fenris, but Bastet consider her followers to be kindred spirits and
may aid them in times of need.
Totem Ban:Followers of Panther must aid
felines in distress, and are known to gather good gossip for their Cat.
Current packs: None
Former packs: Pathfinders
Pegasus
TRIBE: Black Furies
Totem type: Respect
Description:
Although this Totem is associated with the Black Furies, it is also
known for the power in its wings and the nobility it exudes. The Pegasus is
chiefly concerned with sacred places and seeks to protect them. Because of the
feud between the Get of Fenris and the Black Furies, the Pegasus will not adopt
a Pack that has a Get in it. The pegasus is often represented as a black winged
horse with fiery eyes. It controls the element of air, and can teach its
Children Gifts associated with travel and air. Packs who are chosen by the
Pegasus gain an increase to their Honor and may call upon the fiery will of the
Pegasus to supplement their own. Followers of the Pegasus also gain a great
knowledge of the animal world. Black Furies will always be well disposed
towards a Pack of the Pegasus.

Paths from the Wyrm.

The Master of the Wild Hunt, great Stag is the representation of the wild
masculine power of nature. He is an ancient Totem, older than the Garou, and

their affinity with nature, and was perhaps instrumental in the breaking of the
Impergium: he is associated with virility as well. Stag will appear to lost
Garou at times to lead them out of danger, and during hard times to aid them in
a crisis. Packs who are chosen by the Stag gain an increase in Honor and may
tap into the wild will of nature that the Stag represents. Followers of the
Stag also gain the skills necessary to survive in the wilds. The Fianna will
always be well disposed toward a Pack of the Stag, as will the Faeries.

Stallion
Totem type: Respect
Description:
Stallion is the male aspect of Pegasus. However, the Black Fury's long
standing habit of sending away their male children has resulted in Stallion
being largely unknown and unfollowed.Despite their rejection of him, he is
loosely affiliated with the Black Furies although few of them will admit it
and fewer still like it. As a result, packs that follow Stallion will receive
no special favor from the Black Furies and might even be treated worse by them
than they otherwise would be. Stallion is best known for speed and virility
and he gives his speed to those that follow him and expects them to follow
his lead in virility. Those in a pack that follows Stallion have their
running speed doubled in both the realm and the umbra, very much like having
Speed of Thought.
Totem Ban: At least one member of a pack that follows Stallion must always be actively seeking to producing offspring.

Uktena surrounds its Children with a protective ward. Individuals favored by
Uktena are taught secret lore and knowledge by it. In addition, Uktena
directly teaches them a Gift every year. The Pack's association with Uktena
causes other Garou to mistrust them and is the cause of many social
difficulties in dealing with other Garou. They do, however, gain a bonus of
Wisdom. Garou of the Uktena Tribe will treat the Pack as lost siblings.
Totem Ban: Uktena asks that its Children recover mystical lore, places,
animals and objects from the Wyrm. (This often includes Magi and always
includes Tremere.)

Pack gains Wisdom Renown for being associated with such a wise Totem.

Wendigo
TRIBE: Wendigo
Totem type: War
Description:
Wendigo teaches the Garou about the wild tactics of the storm in
battle. The Children of the Wendigo gain a great deal of Glory upon being
chosen. Wendigo allows one of the Children in his Pack to be gifted with an
awesome amount of Rage, and all of his Children may use their Rage with less
chance of frenzy. The Wendigo tribe will not necessarily automatically trust
Children of the Wendigo: it is often too wild and unpedictable for sound
judgement.
Totem Ban: Wendigo asks that its Children always give aid to native
peoples in trouble.

Wind, East
Totem type: Wisdom
Description:
The Wind Incarna are abstract entities, incomprehensible to most
Garou. They can only be communicated with in meditation or in the Umbra.
Nonetheless, the Zephyr Stargazers, who created the Martial Art of Kailindo,
have allied with them and have based many combat maneuvers on the wisdom gained
from these spirits. The Wendigo have also been known to ally with them,
especially the North Wind. The East Wind grants its followers extra Gnosis;
it is also harder for them to frenzy and lose control.
Totem Ban: The Followers of the Wind must meditate for at least one
hour per week, or the Wind will forsake them.

Description:
Winter Wolf s the master of survival in harsh conditions. His domain
consists of some of the harshest land in the world, and there he has
managed to live as a king. He is very in touch with the Wyld; his animal
nature is strong and cunning. He is as fierce as any creature can be, yet
knows when a hunt should be left to more foolish creatures. He teaches
his children how to endure in harsh conditions, granting them added
Stamina and two points of Survival. He also shows his children the
Wyld within them, granting them an increased affinity with beasts both
within and without. The greatest gift of Winter Wolf, however, is strength
of will, which he shares with his children.
Totem Ban: Winter Wolf asks
that during the harsh months, food should be left out for those of his
kin who did not find the proper rock under which to dig.

Wolverine
Totem type: War
Description:
Wolverine is among the most warlike of the Totem spirits. He is
tireless in battle and shows no mercy to his foes. Though not the strongest of
creatures, Wolverine will continue to fight long after the mightiest giant has
fallen from exhaustion. The anger of the Wolverine makes him truly unmerciful,
a trait many see as disturbing. Wolverine is always willing to teach his
Children the ways of combat, giving them the stamina to be as tireless in
battle as their Totem. But Wolverine is not content with making doughty
warriors of his Children; he must also share with them his fury. To do this,
he shows them a scene from the heart of the Wyrm. After seeing this, the
Children of the Wolverine know the cause of the spirit's anger and learn his
Rage. Followers of Wolverine always have this Rage and can never lose the wolf.
Totem Ban: Wolverine requires that his followers always use Rage in
combat. In addition, the Children of Wolverine may never show mercy to a foe.

Wyvern
Totem type: War
Description:
The serpentine Wyvern is sometimes a herald of war and unrest, warning
of approaching trouble. He despises the Wyrm greatly, and is not above
using dirty tactics when doing battle with corruption. Many Silver Fangs
consider Wyvern to be a somewhat savage totem, but his guidance
is often popular among young, angry Fangs. He favors his children
with gifts granting them greater perceptions and touching the
elements of the Wyld.
Totem Ban:
Wyvern hates seeing caerns defiled, and charges his followers to defend
caerns whenever asked, even if the sacred sites belong to rival tribes or
other Changing Breeds. Wyvern's followers may never "liberate" caerns
from "lesser shapeshifters".

To he known on the net as Mozam,
who did a page very much like this. Its disappearance is what inspired me
to do this. Imitation is the greatest form of flattery.
To the unknown contributors to the GarouMUSH news files, whose text I
scalped shamelessly.
And, to InleRah, my
partner-in-crime, for finding and "making" the pictures found therein,
for being as obsessive as I about some things
